Oregon Teacher Licensure Exam Preparation: Home

General Recommendations

This guide is designed to assist students with identifying the appropriate exams, study materials, test taking strategies, and campus resources to pass their required teacher licensure exams.  Students need to begin studying well in advance in order to pass the appropriate content exams for the grades and subjects they plan to teach.

For specific "to do lists" for each year you are at WOU, use the tabs at the top of this page.

All required exams must be passed prior to applying to the Professional Licensure Program (most students apply at the beginning of Spring term their Junior year).  Use the Quick Reference Guide to identify which exams you will be taking, how to access preparation materials, and how to register.

Test Preparation Resources

One-hour Teacher Licensure Exam Preparation workshops are offered on campus several times each term.  It is recommended that students attend one of these workshops during Freshman year (or as early as possible for transfer students).

Study Guides for each content are are available for both check-out and in-library use at WOU's Hamersly Library.  You will learn more about how to use these study guides in tandem with the test content for your specific exams at the workshop.

Paper or Online versions of study guides for each content area can be ordered for about $40.

Study groups for each content area are offered each term, and are recommended for students who are within 6 months of taking their licensure exams.

Online tutorial is available to help students prepare for taking computer-based exams.

A virtual tour of Pearson Testing Centers will help students know what to expect when they arrive to take licensure exams.

Students who did not pass their exams the first time, and would like additional help, can schedule advising  appointments for:

  • Reviewing previous test taking experiences, scores, strengths, and weaknesses
  • Identifying specific content areas and study methods to focus on prior to next exam
  • Learning new test taking strategies to improve score on next exam
  • Referrals to FREE on-campus counseling for test anxiety
