OPTION 1: Formal and Informal Communication in the Profession

The Occupational Outlook Handbook provides information on career preparation, working conditions, salary estimates, job outlook, and more for a wide variety of jobs. It also has information on professional associations and related organizations for different careers. To find these:

1. Search for a job related to your field of interest

2. Select a specific job

3. Click on the More Info tab on the far right:

 

4. Visit any relevant websites listed

5. On those websites, look for sections like: Publications, Newsletter, Blog, Journal and other examples of written materials

OPTION 2: Advanced Google Searching

Google: www.google.com

In the search box, enter your keywords, but add one of these to the end:

  • site:.org       Finds non-profit websites – professional organizations, advocacy groups, educational groups, etc.
  • site:.gov      Finds government websites – good option if your field of interest is related to government
  • site:.edu      Finds college & university websites – info on teaching, research, policy recommendations, etc.
