Finding Books

WOU-Only Catalog
Books and e-books available at WOU. Books can be checked out for 3 weeks with 2 renewals. E-books are available online 24/7 from any computer and don't need to be checked out.  

SUMMIT
Books and other materials from Oregon and Washington academic libraries, and books and materials from Interlibrary Loan. 

Summit books and materials check out for 6 weeks with no renewals. Summit items take 3-5 business days and can be picked up at the WOU library checkout desk. You will be notified by email when your items are ready to be picked up.   

Books and materials from Interlibrary Loan can take 7-14 business days, have variable loan periods, and may or may not be renewed. 

Ebrary
Western Oregon University's e-book collection. No e-reader requited. You can access e-books at anytime.

Academic Search Premier has newspapers, magazines, and academic articles

Academic OneFile has newspapers, magazines, academic articles, and multimedia including video, blogs, and podcasts

America: History & Life provides access to journal articles, media, dissertations and book reviews on American history

American Rhetoric a website that provides access to 5,000+ transcripts and audio recordings of American speeches. Searchable by speaker's name within the "Speech Bank"

Biographies Plus Illustrated contains biographies, obituaries and photographs for thousands of notable individuals

Communication and Mass Media Complete provides academic articles published in more than 600 journals covering communication and mass media studies  

Lexis-Nexis has a biography search that provides access to American newspaper articles from sources including the New York Times and The Oregonian as well as entries from biographical directories. (Look for the "People" tab)

 

American Rhetoric -- Online

American Rhetoric Online Speech Bank is a database of and index to 5000+ full text, audio and video versions of public speeches, sermons, legal proceedings, lectures, debates, interviews, other recorded media events, and a declaration or two.

American National Biography provides biographies for thousands of influential Americans written by experts in their fields

American Speeches 2nd volume contains famous American speeches from Lincoln to Clinton.
