Internet Searching

Finding the "right" information on the Internet can be a challenge. Choosing the right tools is the first step for successful searching. Some of the following may be useful as you search:

Subject Guides
The librarians at the Hamersly Library have selected various resources (print and electronic) and have grouped them together by subject. Many guides are still being developed.
Featured Search Engines: Finding the right search engine:
AltaVista
AltaVista provides advanced searching options, allowing you to limit to a specific format, domain or by using boolean terms.
Noodle Tools
Gives a quick description and grouping by potential use of several search engines.
Google
Google provides a quick list of results. The results are ranked by the search engine, so you are likely to find your subject in the first few hits.
Search Engine Watch
Provides insight into how different search engines work and provides reviews and statistics for some of the major search engines.

Infomine
A directory of scholarly Internet resources that are reviewed and grouped by topic by librarians.

Internet Search Engines (University at Albany Libraries)
Provides links to search engines and a good listing of search engines broken down by type.
