The Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission announced the availability of online proctoring for select NES assessments in the ORELA program. Online proctoring allows you to take your test securely from your home, school, or business. With just a simple check-in process—involving ID verification, face-matching technology, and a live greeter—you can test without having to travel to a test center. The column on the right side of this page has each test marked that is available through online proctoring. Please check out the ORELA website for more details: click here!
This guide is designed to assist students with identifying the appropriate exams, study materials, test taking strategies, and campus resources to pass their required teacher licensure exams. Students need to begin studying well in advance in order to pass the appropriate content exams for the grades and subjects they plan to teach.
For specific "to do lists" for each year you are at WOU, use the tabs at the top of this page.
All required exams must be passed prior to applying to the Professional Licensure Program (most students apply at the beginning of Spring term their Junior year). Use the Quick Reference Guide to identify which exams you will be taking, how to access preparation materials, and how to register.
One-hour Teacher Licensure Exam Preparation workshops are offered several times each term. It is recommended that students attend one of these workshops during their first two years at WOU (or as early as possible for transfer students).
Study Guides for each content are available in WOU's Hamersly Library both online and in person. Click on the ORELA Secrets Book icon next to your exam to be directed to the online version. You will learn more about how to use these study guides in tandem with the test content for your specific exams at the workshop.
If you have additional questions please email education@mail.wou.edu.
