These are the major resources for sociology research.

  • Sociological Abstracts
    Indexes and provides abstracts for the international scholarly literature in sociology and related disciplines. The database provides abstracts of journal articles and citations to book reviews drawn from more than 1,809 serials publications, and also provides abstracts of books, book chapters, dissertations, and conference papers. Updated monthly.
  • Annual Review of Sociology
    This journal is available in print and online in many databases.

Political Science Databases

  • Columbia International Affairs Online Journals
    CIAO provides access to basic data, detailed maps, and economic and political information for 200 plus countries. This quarterly-updated information comes from The Economist and its research arm, The Economist Intelligence Unit. In addition to this information, CIAO delivers online full-text for 30-40,000 pages of grey and published literature each year.
  • CQ Researcher
    Provides full-text access to reports that examine contemporary social and political issues. Compiled by staff at Congressional Quarterly, Inc., an independent research firm, each report includes more than 12,000 words and an extensive bibliography on a single topic. Covers a wide range of social, economic, political, and environmental issues. Limited to 5 simultaneous users.
  • Legal Collection
    Indexes and provides full-text articles published in more than 250 respected law journals. Provides information centered on the discipline of law and legal topics such as criminal justice, international law, federal law, organized crime, medical, labor & human resource law, ethics, and the environment. Also includes documents and case studies.
  • Legal LexisNexis
    Extensive legal database that includes federal and state cases and statutes, law reviews and journals; Shepard's citation links between cases, and much more.
  • National Criminal Justice Reference Service Abstracts Database
    Indexes and provides abstracts for more than 180,000 criminal justice publications, including federal, state, and local government reports, journal articles and unpublished research.
  • Polling the Nations
    This database contains data gathered in more than 14,000 surveys conducted by more than 700 polling organizations in the United States and more than 80 other countries. Each record reports a question asked and the responses given. Also included in each record are the name of the organization that conducted the poll, the date the information was released, the sample size, and the groups or areas included in the interview.
  • ProQuest Congressional
    Indexes congressional publications, legislative histories, and sources for researching proposed legislation and traking the status of bills. Includes full text for the National Journal, US Code, Code of Federal Regulations, and Congressional Record, starting with the 99th Congress (1985-86).
  • ProQuest Statistical Insight
    Provides full-text access to statistical data contained in sources published by agencies of the U.S. government, major international intergovernmental organizations, professional and trade organizations, commercial publishers, independent research organizations, state government agencies, and universities. Useful for obtaining authoritative statistical data on a wide range of topics, such as: national income and production, retail and wholesale trade, interest rates, and economic indicators.

  • Global Road Warrior
    The Global Road Warrior is an international resource for social, cultural, travel, and business information. The database covers 175 countries and territories and includes information on demographics, economy, holidays, currencies, visas, climate, passports, immunization, entry and departure, emergencies, internal travel information, country and regional maps, airports, international dialing guides, and more.
  • UNdata
    Provides country profiles, advanced search and glossaries to aid research. Includes more than 55 million data points covering a wide range of themes including Agriculture, Education, Employment, Energy, Environment, Health, HIV/AIDS, Human Development, Industry, Information and Communication Technology, National Accounts, Population, Refugees, Tourism, Trade, as well as the Millennium Development Goals indicators.
  • World News Connection
    An extremely valuable research tool for anyone who wishes to monitor or consult non-U.S. media sources. Provides English translations of government statements and articles from international news sources, including both print and broadcast media. Covers significant socioeconomic, political, scientific, technical, and environmental issues and events.

  • America: History & Life  
    Rating
    This database indexes and provides abstracts for articles published in more than 2,000 sources. Covers the history of the United States and Canada. Includes journal articles, reviews of books and media, and dissertations.
  • Anthropology Plus  
    Rating
    Provides citations for articles and essays on anthropology and archaeology in English and other European languages. Anthropology Plus includes content from both Harvard University's Anthropological Literature database and the Royal Anthropological Institute's Anthropological Index.
  • Historic Oregon Newspapers
    On this site you can search and access complete content for historic Oregon newspapers that have been digitized as part of the Oregon Digital Newspaper Program (ODNP).
  • Historical Abstracts
    Indexes and abstracts approximately 2,000 journals dealing with the history the world since 1450, excludes Canada and the United States.
  • Historical Statistics of the United States
    Provides statistics from more than 1000 sources. Includes more than 37,000 data series, covering dozens of new topics such as: slavery, American Indians, and poverty. The fully searchable and downloadable electronic edition permits users to graph individual tables and create customized tables and spreadsheets reflecting their own particular areas of interest.
  • Immigration to the United States, 1789-1930
    Books, manuscripts, maps, photographs, and other historical materials that document voluntary immigration to the United States from the ratification of the Constitution in 1789 to the Great Depression.
  • Readers' Guide Retrospective
    Find articles published in popular, general-interest U.S. magazines and newspapers between 1890 and 1982. An especially good source for locating primary materials related to the study of U.S. history and popular culture. To find articles published since 1982, consult the print Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature shelved in our Reference collection.
