GOAL: Find examples of writing in your chosen field of interest or profession
Try targeted Google searches. Examples:
Interior design concept statement
Elementary school lesson plans
Nursing care plan
Try it below:
Use Occupational Outlook Handbook to find out!
1. Go to The Occupational Outlook Handbook
2. Search for a job related to your field of interest
3. Once you find a job, read What They Do to find out about writing in that profession:
Once you've identified the types of writing in that field, go back to Google (above) and search for examples of that type of writing.
Another option is to find formal writing done in scholarly journals. The links below will direct you toward article databases where you can search for writing in a particular field.
This option works best if you have a topic in mind. For instance, you can use an Education database to find articles on a specific topic, like how to handle disruptive students in an elementary school class. If you have any questions about using article databases to find examples of formal writing, get in touch with your librarian.
