WR 122 - Morgan: Your Discourse Community

Getting Started: Researching your discourse community

To get started on Task #2 of your assignment, please complete this guided tutorial, which will prepare you to conduct research on your discourse community. Then, use the rest of this guide for information about how to use specific tools to conduct that research. As always, if you have questions or need help with either the tutorial or the resources in this guide, contact your librarian--------------------------------------------------------------------->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Find out what kind of writing is done in your chosen field

If your discourse community is an industry or profession, you may be able to use the Occupational Outlook Handbook to find out.

1. Go to The Occupational Outlook Handbook

2. Search for a job related to your field of interest

3. Once you find a job, read What They Do to find out about writing in that profession:

Once you've identified the types of writing in that field, go back to Google (above) and search for examples of that type of writing.
