INT 460: Current Issues for Interpreters

Writing an Abstract

An abstract is a summary of your research paper covering the key concepts, main ideas, and findings. They act as a roadmap telling your readers what you researched, why it is important, what you found out about the topic

Here are two handouts and a video to show you how to write an abstract. The handouts open in a new tab.

Handout #1 The APA Guidelines for Writing an Abstract. This covers the technical specifications that APA 7th Edition requires for formatting your Abstract. Note: the word count may differ from your assignment requirements.

Handout #2: Descriptive vs Informative Abstracts. This handout explains the differences between the two most common types of abstracts: Descriptive and Informative abstracts.
