Welcome to the SPED 622 research guide with libarary search activites.
The following handouts are designed to introduce you to the research process. At the end of each handout will be a short activity to complete.
To the right are links to schedule an appointment with the Writing Center and to Request an in-person or Zoom meeting with a librarian (if needed). There is also a link to an APA guide to help with the citation and formatting of your research.

ACTIVITY #1: ADVANCED WEB SEARCHING
This activity discusses the impact of Generative A.I. on web search results included best practices for using these new features. Two additional search techniques are also discussed. The activity focuses on finding three web articles you could use in your research.
Activity #2: Types of Academic Articles in Research / How to Read an Academic Article
This activity discusses the types of academic research you will find in the library databases and tips on how to read academic articles.
HOW TO ACCESS THE LIBRARY DATABASES
This handout shows your how to access the library databases
ACTIVITY #3: FINDING ARTICLES WITH GOOGLE SCHOLAR
This activity discusses the advantages of using the Google Scholar link from the library to find three peer reviewed academic articles as well as using advance techniques like the Cited By feature and getting the MLA/ APA citation for the articles.
ACTIVITY #4: FINDING ARTICLES WITH EBSCO DATABASES
This activity discusses how to search all EBSCO databases at once for articles on your discourse community and get the MLA/APA citation for articles.
BONUS INFO: GETTING BOOKS AND eBOOKS FROM WOU LIBRARY
This hanout shows you how to get books and ebooks from the WOU library. If you do not live close to campus we will mail you physical books with free return postage.
