Services for Extended Programs Students and Faculty

Students of the Division of Extended Programs are entitled to the same library privileges as traditional on-campus students. To help students obtain library materials in a timely manner, Hamersly Library provides the following services:

Obtaining Books from Hamersly Library (and other libraries)

Extended Programs students have access to books and other library materials at the Hamersly Library, but also to library materials available at all Summit libraries affiliated with Western Oregon University. (Check here to see locations of all Summit institution) Additionally, you may request books outside the Summit System via Interlibrary Loan.

If your residence is convenient to a Summit System library, you should follow these instructions for ordering and returning materials:

If your residence is not convenient to a Summit System library, follow these instructions for looking up materials in Wolf, the Hamersly Library catalog, and then ordering them from the Hamersly Library:

Obtaining Journal Articles from Hamersly Library:

A number of current journals are available for searching and full-text article access through Ebsco and Lexis Nexis. We recommend that you begin your research there. For articles not available in full-text through Ebsco, and those citations you find in other database systems, follow these instructions for ordering:

ERIC Documents

The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) database indexes both journal articles and research reports, curriculum guides, and other print publications in many fields of Education. If you wish to obtain full-text articles from ERIC, we recommend searching ERIC via Ebsco. If you wish access to the whole range of ERIC articles and documents, please follow these instructions for access and ordering:

Research Assistance and Instruction 

Hamersly Librarians are available for research assistance and consultation via telephone and email. Please consult the list of subject librarians for the appropriate contact information. For questions requiring an immediate response, please contact the Hamersly Library Reference Desk at 503.838.8899.

Library instruction sessions are also available for those programs which meet outside the Western Oregon University campus.
